Situated 12 miles west of Inverness, on the north bank of the River Beauly, the village is within reach of Loch Ness, the coast and its sandy beaches, and the ancient Caledonian pine forests of Strathfarrar and Glen Affric. The village is a beautiful place, which is reflected in its name which is derived from the French "beau lieu". The residents are proud of the lovely community that they live in, and the village has won both Scotland and Britain in Bloom titles. The village was built around a 13th Century priory, and the ruins that remain today are a must-see for visitors.
